The Big Votes in Fire District Election

Greenville FD map courtesy of Google

The biggest votes in the Fire Districts races will apparently take place in the Greenville Fire District. It encompasses a pretty extensive area that includes some affluent neighborhoods. Most notably are Edgemont and the Fort Hill area. Heres some information regarding the three proposals.

Greenville Voter Proposal #1
This proposal is for the Greenville Fire District to borrow up to $285,000 to repair and renovate its only building, their fire headquarters located on Central Avenue. They previously had a major renovation in 1991. Now, some twenty years later, they are looking for a new roof, waterproofing, and parking lot repaving.

Greenville Voter Request #2
The second proposition is to borrow up to $550,000 to pay tax certiorari refunds. Tax certiorari refunds are payments made to commercial property owners in Edgemont who successfully petition the Town for reductions over multiple years in their property tax assessments. The district is forecasting that the amount of refunds it will need to pay the settlements can’t be covered by the district’s operating budget.

The Town has apprized the fire districts to expect an unprecedented level of tax certiorari claims to be settled over the 2015-16 period once the town-wide reassessment project is finished. Mr Feiner reduced our fund balance by 40% (approximately $2M) which is normally used to cover our own certiorari obligations in another ill-fated attempt to balance this year’s budget. Ill-fated because if his prediction is true, and ABG believe it is, the Town will not have enough money to pay it’s own certiorari payouts! We average $100K per meeting and have peaked on occasion to $3M.

This 40% reduction will offset next year’s tax hikes so that town officials can tell voters they’ve met the state tax cap again. Can you say, “Election year hijinks?” What ABG believes should happen is a) the Town doesnt raid the Reserve Fund; b) the Town loan the necessary funds for the certiorari adjustments that must be made by the Fire Districts instead of them having to borrow money commercially; and c) since the certiorari adjustments are due to the lack of a Town-wide revaluation for at least the last 22-years, the loans should not have any interest attached to them.

Greenville Voter Request #3
The third and largest proposal for borrowing is for up to $950,000 to replace the district’s 13-year old ladder truck that is approaching the end of its useful life. Not knowing what the expected lifespan of this aerial ladder is, it is difficult to say exactly when it should be replaced. We don’t know the condition of the ladder or even if the ladder should be refurbished, which would extend its life by about ten years and save the taxpayers some money. That's a decision the Fire District's Board must answer. Although, most residents in Edgemont that ABG discussed these three proposals with were in favor of approving all three proposals, including purchasing a new aerial ladder truck.

ABG often writes about the willfully ignorant voter in Greenburgh. History has proven that not many people will be voting in these fire district elections and that few ever attend the monthly Board meetings. While the deck is said to be stacked against the residents/taxpayers at this point because of their lack of involvement, we can only hope to see more people getting involved. Only then will we get A Better Greenburgh.

  1. The proper use of taxpayer dollars is exactly why we must vote for Claire Pizzuti for Fire Commissioner. Her credentials are impeccable and her ethics unquestionable. Vote for the person with the most financial experience and you will not go wrong. Vote for Claire Pizzuti!

  2. Alan Hochberg is a convicted felon and Master of Stolen Valor. He is behind the candicy of Pizzuti. A vote for Pizzutti is a vote for Hochberg!!!! Hochberg has proven himself to be a lap dog for Feiner. Feiner has devestated the Police Department. We only have 115 Police Officers. We should have over 130. Feiner's mismanagement has placed citizens and officers in jeopardy. A Vote for Pizzuti will ensure that Fairview is on the same road to ruin. No one who has "impeccable credentials" would associate themselves with Alan Hochberg.

  3. I have never heard of Alan Hochberg. To smear a valued member of our community with outlandish lies is horrifying and just wrong. You can have your own opinion but you can not have your own facts. Claire Pizzuti is truly the best candidate here. Please check your facts. Thank you.

  4. Claire Pizzuti is a tool of Milt Hoffman. Milt Hoffman is a tool of Alan Hochberg the convicted felon. Milt Hoffman even admitted on video that he knew that Alan Hochberg was a convicted felon but chose not to disclose his past. Alan Hochberg is Paul Feiner's chief political consultant and the Deputy Town Supervisor of Greenburgh. Those are the facts. A vote for Pizutti is a vote for Hochberg.

  5. A vote for Pizzuti is a Vote for Pizzuti. I know her and she is no puppet. Your assertions are without merit.

  6. Pizzuti is a prominent member of Milt Hoffman's supposed watch dog group. Milt Hoffman admitted on video that he knew of Alan Hochberg's criminal past but kept silent about it. Pizzuti is forever connected to both Hoffman, the cover up artist and Hochberg, the convicted felon and master of Stolen Valor. A vote for Pizzuti is a vote for Hochberg!!!

  7. A vote for Claire Pizzuti is a vote for Claire Pizzuti. She is no one's puppet but rather an independent thinker. To smear her via any third-hand association just sounds like desperation to me. I suspect that one of the other candidates is behind this smear campaign. Do not be fooled, good people of the Fairview Fire District, vote for Claire Pizzuti.

  8. A Leopard does not change its spots and neither did Mr. Hochberg. A couple of years ago during his retirement party one of the accomplishments he was congratulated for was his service to his country as a Marine sargeant fighting in Vietnam. Hochberg was NEVER in the military and allowed this lie to go unchallenged. Of course, he was the source of the lie. As head of the Poet's Corner Civic Association Hochberg gets involved with Greenburgh Town Politics. Faul Feiner has found a political soul mate whose disregard for honor and honesty is equivalent to his own. Milt Hoffman always had a deep rooted hatred of the Fairview Fire Department. Chief Mauro would never bow down to him. Hochberg chaired Feiner's committee on fire department consolidation and Hoffman was a prominent member of it. Hoffman's "Fire Monitors" are a direct result of that committee. Pizzuti owes her new found prominence within the Fairview community to Hoffman, a Hochberg puppet and long time Feiner apologist. Thus, a direct link is made between Pizzuti and the convicted felon Alan Hochberg. A vote for Pizzuti is a vote for Hochberg!!!!!!!!

  9. If Pizzuti was such a good candidate, why would she be associated with the Hoffman, Hochberg crew? Hoffman KNEW Hochberg was a convicted felon and hid those facts from the people. Hoffman hand picked Pizzuti. What horrors would we be in for with a Pizzuti administration??? No one that Hoffman hand picks can be trusted. They would be in place to follow the Hochberg agenda, plain and simple.

  10. clearly someone has a deep hatred for this guy Hochberg. So sad that this person feels compelled to smear others just to make their point. Claire Pizzuti is the best candidate and her background and commitment to our town demonstrate that.

  11. A vote for Todd Cammisa is the only way to preserve the excellent quality of fire protection that Fairview residents are used to. There are far too many questions concerning Ms. Pizzuti's association with Milt Hoffman and his obedience to the Hochberg/Feiner line. I urge all voters to cast their vote for Todd Cammisa!! Thank You.

  12. ahhh, it is now clear lt is now very clear that the smear campaign is a product of the Cammisa people. Claire Pizzuti is clearly the best candidate and the desperation of Cammisa is just so very sad.

  13. Nope. It is written by concerned citizens who don't want to see a convicted Felon like Alan Hochberg be reprersented on such an inportant Fairview Institution as the Board of Fire Commissioners. A Vote for Pizzuti is a vote for Hochberg!!

  16. It seems to me that there is a whole lot of gender bashing going on here. I know Claire Pizzuti from Pace Law School and she is smart, articulate and highly ethical. I live in the Fairview Fire District and I will vote for her and I urge my neighbors to do the same. Good Luck Ms. Pizzuti!

  17. On the night that Alan Hochberg was exposed as a convicted felon and a disbarred for life attorney, Milt Hoffman admitted that he knew of Hochberg's past. By supressing the truth about Hochberg, Hoffman basically admitted that he puts politics ahead of honesty. Hoffman also threatened to spit on the individual who told the truth about Hochberg. Before Tuesday, Claire Pizzuti needs to answer several questions herself, not have Milt Hoffman write some PR for her. These are important questions and the public has a right to know: 1. Does she agree with Hoffman's covering up of the facts in the Hochberg case. 2. If she does not, why is she part of Hoffman's Fire Monitors? 3. Does Pizzuti agree with Hoffman's stated intent to spit on the individual who told the truth in the Hochberg case? 4. If not, why is she part of Hoffman's Fire Monitors? 5. Why hasn't Pizzuti publicly chastized Hoffman's brutish behavior? 6. Is this the type of behavior we can expect from a Pizzuti administration? 7. If Pizzuti pleads innocence to knowledge of any of the above facts, why should anyone vote for someone who is so clueless as to the goings on in Greenbugh in general and particularly the Fairview Fire District.

  18. More slander on this blog...so sad that the above poster is masquerading as some kind of authority on misinformation.

  19. The Hochberg people have done an excellent job of opposition research. The only problem is that they can no longer cover up for Alan himself. There are only two candidates that have direct ties to this convicted criminal, Claire Pizzuti in Fairview and Mike Goldstein in Hartsdale. No amount of opposition research can change that. A vote for either one of those candidates empowers the criminal Hochberg.
