You Can Lead A Horse To Water

In a disappointing loss for truth, integrity and true open government, our incumbent Supervisor handily won the Greenburgh Democratic Primary election, beating the Greenburgh Democratic Leaders’ choice by roughly a three to one vote, as did his running mate. With a seemingly low Democratic voter turnout, those it did choose to vote made a big mistake.

According to the posted information from the Westchester County Board of Elections as of 6 a.m. today, Mr Feiner has won the Greenburgh Democratic Primary over Hartsdale attorney Robert “Bob” Bernstein. The tally of votes numbers Mr Feiner with 3,431 to Mr Bernstein’s 1,862. Incumbent Town Clerk Judith Beville, trumped challenger Sherron Brunson Fantauzzi with a few more votes than Mr Feiner, receiving 3,631 to Ms Fantauzzi’s 1,607 votes for the Town Clerk nomination. These numbers may fluctuate a small bit after absentee ballots are tallied by all election districts which had submitted their numbers.

Sadly, Mr Feiner distorted the truth about Mr Bernstein, preferring to make up lies about him and simply lie when there was little if any substance to attack. He chose to simply smear Mr Bernstein in mailings as well as control his public persona by refusing to participate in open and honest debates, mocking the public he claims to want to represent and pander to special interests. Mr Bernstein simply cited issue after issue about Mr Feiner’s poor performance and failed record.

It’s difficult to run for office, and especially difficult in a Town tainted by cronyism, special interest pandering, dishonesty, a supermajority that chooses to ignore the truth and out and out illegal activity by corrupt leaders. The Democrats’ super-majority in the Town has locked onto this horse and appears unable to let go. We congratulate Mr Bernstein on a well-run and above-board campaign. We hope this doesn’t cause Mr Bernstein to slow down in fighting for what’s right at Town Hall. Mr Bernstein deserves a few days off to catch his breath. We hope to see him at the podium soon.

  1. I can't believe that Greenburgh residents voted Feiner into another term of office. When I went to vote I was surprised to see Paul Feiner there. It was not his polling place and he had no reason to be there. I would like an explanation. Also there should be some campaign reform. I saw numerous signs for Mr. Bernstein knocked down or defaced with an O with a line through it, not to mention the mailing that Paul sent out filled with lies about Bob Bernstein. Feiner should be brought up on charges for that alone. Candidates should run on their accomplishments not on their ability to sling mud at others to deflect their own shortcomings. Hopefully Mr. Bernstein will consider another run in 2015. I would also like to know what will happen to Francis Sheehan now that he has aligned himself to the "enemy"

  2. Anon: Are you saying that you saw Paul campaigning at a polling place?

  3. I don't know if he was campaigning or not, as I walked in the door he was standing there talking to people working at the polling place and then he left, but I find it curious that he would even be in a polling place that is not his polling place based on where he lives. Certainly raises the question as to why he was there.

  4. Would you be able to tell me what polling place this was?

  6. Leaving aside whether Bernstein had a chance given his slow start, he ran a near god awful campaign. His choice of issues just didn't resonate with voters. His idea for a town manager while good on paper was perceived as an abdication of Feiner style "high touch" government. Most people are dazzled by Feiner's bread and circuses and his home phone number gimmicks. Paul Feiner can be beaten but it has to be by someone who starts on the Town Council, gets known in a 90,000 person town, and runs for office for at least a year. As one voter who lives in unincorporated Greenburgh told me - Feiner has made many mistakes, but who is Bob Bernstein? Most people don't know what is going on in Town government and many are proud to say that they don't care to know. A very sad state of affairs.

  7. And in a town of 90,000, you had less than 10,000 votes cast ? Gary makes some very good points.

  8. Bernstein was a just a guy with a bad reputation to the few people who knew him outside of Edgemont. To be fair though, it is unlikely a better candidate who truly campaigned for serious period of time would have done much better. At least he put his name out there and didn't give Feiner a free ride.

  9. But a quixotic campaign where feiner's nemesis for 10 years was crushed only serves to further make the feiner opposition look even more like cranks. The media gave and continues to give Feiner a free ride. Or you can say its the voters who think a home phone number is a real form of government. its not.
