Upcoming School Board Elections on May 20th

Much has been said about where our tax money goes. Mr Feiner routinely lies about keeping the Town budget under the elective NY State 2% Tax Cap. Our Town taxes are increasing this year by 3.4% – hardly under 2%. Mr Feiner also made a pretty big case for not “creating” an Executive Deputy Chief’s position, which ironically already existed but had not been filled and claimed that this position would put the Fire District over the 2% Tax Cap. Frankly it would not have done so and the Fire District was once again able to come under the 2% Tax Cap – at 2%, not 3.4% as Mr Feiner has done.

The bulk of our property taxes in Greenburgh are comprised of a number of taxing entities that have unfettered access to our wallets. Misinformation from Mr Feiner and others creates great headlines but does nothing to ameliorate the problem of killer taxes in the Town. Your fire taxes and your school taxes followed by the Town and then the litany of others is where you money is going. Two people running for School Board positions are shown below. The school elections are May 20th. Please make sure you go and vote and then attend school board meetings. This way, when the propagandists at Town Hall are doing their best to push their agendas, you’ll be better prepared to deal with the misinformation they spew.

  1. The school districts, the fire districts, the water department, police department, the county, the town, etc. all are interested in increasing salary, pension, benefits, and perks. Little thought is given to the burden they are placing on the homeowners and taxpayers. It is in their own interest to take as much as possible and have individuals to push the agenda. "Power (and money) will always flow from the many to the few because the few are vigilant." Those in the private sector are too busy with their own lives to devote the energy and time necessary to fight this insidious status quo. Incidentally, what are the salaries of this school board and the supervisors? Finally, their should be a large differential to help the seniors and others who do not have children in the schools. The voting system is rigged and probably illegal. Many seniors who are hard pressed to pay the school tax have either given up or cannot attend the vote or the meetings. No one doing "public service" really cares, it is all about "me" or better yet "for the children."

  2. More irresponsible bs from an unreconstructed reaganite.
I don't go to the national parks - so I should be allowed to opt out? At one time you were in school and someone without kids at the time paid for it.
Try and think outside your tea party box and come up with a different way to fund the schools and other municipal services. Gee, we spent 1-3 trillion on Bush
Cheney wars - don't hear you complaining about that.

Don't want to pay for education? - then move. That and a good commute to NYC is why people are in Greenburgh.

    1. The subject at hand is not Bush-Cheney wars which were a complete waste of blood and resources. I never went to any public school so no one paid for me. Some areas around the country do not tax the seniors at all for the school system. The burden should be born by those using it. You move and pay your own way for the kids, but I suspect you are one and ill mannered I might add.
